Whoever does any act with such intention or knowledge2020the intention to cause death2020 and under such circumstances that if he by that act caused death he would be guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3200872008 years, or with fine, or with both; and if hurt is caused to any person by such act, the offender 2008shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with both200815 years, or with fine, or with caning, or with any combination of such punishments2008.
